About Barry

Having lived in New England my entire life I've settled in the beautiful state of Maine surrounded by some of the most amazing scenery a painter could ask for. My approach to painting doesn't focus on one style, but rather I let the subject lead me to what style best captures the moment. Sometimes it's impressionism, sometimes illustrative, sometimes just a whisper of paint and sometimes it's impasto with heavy paint and bold brush strokes. I also tend to gravitate to smaller canvas sizes with a focus on detail. I believe the smaller sizes allows the viewer to capture the subject as a whole without the eye having to move around the painting which I believe can actually cause a distraction. I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter, from landscapes to pets to portraits and murals. I accept commissions in each of these areas so please feel free to contact me with your ideas.
